Partners HealthCare’s Longitudinal Medical Record (LMR) last week gained the federal seal of approval as an effective and secure ambulatory electronic health record product. The LMR is the ambulatory electronic medical record system used at BWH and across PHS.
The Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology (CCHIT), which certifies electronic health record products for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, certified the LMR.
“This achievement recognizes the tremendous work of many IS staff members and our physician colleagues who contributed to the LMR over the years,” Sue Schade, BWH’s chief information officer, said. “This certification provides our physicians, clinical users and patients with the confidence that we are using an industry-tested and industry-approved electronic medical record solution.”
In addition to strict security, reliability and data loss prevention standards, the CCHIT review process examined the LMR’s functionality for all patients and workflows; management of patient history, medications, allergies and test results; and its interoperability in terms of data exchange with other sources of health care information for prescriptions, lab results and scheduling.
At BWH, approximately 3,500 total users have access to LMR, including 805 physicians and staff in all primary care practices and most specialty services. It allows physicians to maintain the patient record electronically and manage patient care. Providers can easily share data with other clinicians involved in the patient’s care across Partners to facilitate communication and ensure continuity of care. Primary care doctors and specialists can view each other’s data.
Each provider can view the patient’s current medications, allergies and notes others have written. This ensures that all of the patient’s care providers are on the same page and making decisions based on the most accurate and up to date information.
